Doing the rest in one go.

Creative Fan Endeavors

Have you ever created fan art, fan fiction, or any other fan work for your fandom?
As it's written in my profile:
Fannish activities I have done: drawn fanart, written fic, made icons, made a fanfic masterlist, created fan characters, made very bad fanvids for myself that are now lost because old PC went kahput!

Can you talk about a fan project that you’re particularly proud of?
Denouement is still the best thing I've written. Tried being more descriptive and it actually worked!

How do you see creativity as a part of your participation in the fandom?
All I have to offer.

What’s your process like when creating something inspired by your fandom?
Get a brainworm (metaphorically) out of nowhere and then exorcise it by drawing/writing it.

Are there any tips or advice you’d offer to someone wanting to start creating fan content?
Do it. Just do it. There will be people who'll hate your work (and yourself) but fuck 'em. Do it still because you will have fun and feel fullfilled. Believe me.

Do you collaborate with other fans on projects or creations? If so, what is that like?
Never done that.

How has the feedback from the community affected your creative works?
Didn't draw for months :)

What motivates you to contribute your own creations to the fan community?
The need to exorcise the demons simply share, because you never know if someone out there needs something like what I've created.

Have any of your fan creations ever been recognized by the creators or actors involved in the fandom?
Well, most are dead. The ones who are alive, oh god please no never.

Is there a creative skill you’ve developed or improved on through your fan activities?
All of them. I think.

How do you balance originality and adherence to the source material in your creations?
Hahahaha

What’s been the most ambitious or large-scale fan project you’ve seen or participated in?
None, really.

Multifandom Community

Have you ever participated in a multifandom challenge where you were the only person from your fandom(s)?
Of course *cries in small fandoms*

Do you interact with multifandom spaces such as forums, social media, etc? If so, why do you choose this space?
Yes, because it's the only places I get to talk about my weird lil movies and no one bats an eye at them. Sometimes, some people have seen those movies and that's nice.

Have you ever entered a new fandom through fan content such as fic, videos, gifs, etc? Which one(s)?
Not really.

Have you ever organized a multifandom event? If so, which one? (Yes, promote yourself, babyyyy!)
Nom

What's your favorite multifandom challenge or event?
[community profile] threesentenceficathon! Always have a blast with it!

Have you or your work ever been involved in fandom wank that escaped containment?
...

Do you or any of your projects have a fanlore page?
Absolutely not, and I hope I never have one. I'm not self-centered enough to make my own, either.

Do you like crossovers? Have you created any crossover in any form?
Yes and yes. The latest one was a one-sentence fic crossover of Around the World in 80 Days and Ox Tales (it's called Bocas over here). Very normal.

What's your favorite piece of worldbuilding that you apply to multiple fandoms?
I don't... do that.

Do you have any trope or tag that you read fandom blind? Which one?
Not really. I don't do fandom blind.

If you've ever read/seen something fandom blind, did you want to interact further with the fandom afterwards?
I said... I don't do fandom blind.

How do you balance your time between fandoms?
Very badly. Poor Doctor Who. All sad and neglected...
scifirenegade: (one)
Guess who's bored?

That AO3 meme everyone's been doing. Took away all the fanart and translations for this one.

1. Under what rating do you write most?

  • General - 103 (81.75%)

  • Teen - 22 (17.46%)

  • Mature - 1 (0.79%)

Mind you, there is some fic not posted on AO3. There would be another item on that list if there was. Iykyk.

2. What are your top 3 fandoms?

  1. Doctor Who (1963) - 32 (25.40%)

  2. Anders als die Andern (1919) - 22 (17.46%)

  3. Ich und die Kaiserin (1933) - 18 (14.29%)

No surprise that Doctor Who (classic) wins. Over a fourth of the fics posted! Also no surprise that everyone's favourite gay violinists and my one-person-fandom are hanging out in the top 3. I was expecting more Sir Lancelot.

3. What is your top character you write about?
Went with a top 3.

  1. Ian Chesterton - 19 (15.08%)

  2. Barbara Wright - 17 (13.49%)

  3. Kurt Sivers - 16 (12.70%)

Bonkers! Kurt is right behind Barbara (also I wasn't expecting Ian to be above her.)

4. What are the 3 top pairings?

  1. Paul Körner/Kurt Sivers - 16 (12.70%)

  2. Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright - 11 (8.73%)

  3. Ian Chesterton & Barbara Wright - 3 (2.38%)

The Barbarian love is real. But the gay violinists are thriving.

5. What are the top 3 additional tags?

  1. Prompt Fill - 110 (87.30%)

  2. 3 Sentence Ficathon - 60 (47.62%)

  3. Microfic - 50 (39.68%)

While I knew there was going to be a shitton of Prompt Fill, I wasn't expecting it to be over 100. Or that many microfics/3 sentence fics for 3SF. I did post the all seperately.

Other interesting thing:

  • Have 126 fics posted.

  • Out of the 27 fandoms, only 11 have more than one fic posted (8 have more than 2).

  • That makes 16 fandoms with only one fic.

  • Of those 16 fandom, 2 have my fic as the only work. 2 have other works, but they're fanart and/or fanvids. One I know there's more fic out there. One has a placeholder as the other work, so it doesn't count.

  • Have written 5 crossovers.

scifirenegade: The seventh Doctor and Ace standing under an umbrella and having a grand ol' time. (seven & ace)
Because everyone's doing the alphabet meme.

Rules: How many letters of the alphabet have you used for starting a fic title? One fic per line, ‘A’ and 'The’ do not count for 'a’ and ’t’. Post your score out of 26 at the end, along with your total fic count.

A - Always Misunderstood - F.P.1, Droste/Ellissen, pre-canon, drabble

B - Birthday - Anders als die Andern, Kurt(/Paul), post-canon, drabble and a half

C - Close your eyes and I'll kiss you - Ich und die Kaiserin, Juliette/Marquis, post-canon, drabble

D - Dance With Me - Ich und die Kaiserin, Didier/Juliette, pre-canon, quintuple drabble

E - nothing to see here

F - Frills - Ich und die Kaiserin, Juliette/Marquis, post-canon, ficlet (in-universe diary)

G - Give Chase - The Blue Parrot, Bob, post-canon, drabble and a half

H - Helmet - The Adventures of Sir Lancelot, Lancelot/Lynette, post-Sir Crustabread, three sentence fic

I - The Inevitable - Anders als die Andern, Paul(/Kurt), during canon, drabble

J - Just a Parrot - The Blue Parrot, Bob and Maureen, post-canon, drabble

K - nothing to see here

L - Leave All but the Memories - Anders als die Andern, Kurt, post-canon, drabble

M - Meow? What About Me? - The Adventures of Sir Lancelot, Brian, three sentence fic

N - Naamio - A Woman's Face, Torsten, half-drabble

O - Overwhelming - Ich und die Kaiserin, Juliette/Marquis, post-canon, drabble

P - Philately - Nazi Agent, Otto, pre-canon, drabble

Q - nothing to see here

R - The Rose is Red, the Violet is Blue - Ich und die Kaiserin, Juliette/Marquis, post-canon, microfic (in-universe poetry)

S - The sin was mine - Sex in Chains, Alfred, pre-canon, drabble

T - Triangle - Ich und die Kaiserin, Didier/Juliette/Marquis, post-canon, triple drabble

U - Unrequited - The Last Performance, Julie, canon divergence, drabble

V - Valse - Ich und die Kaiserin, Juliette/Marquis, post-canon, three sentence fic

W - The Walk - Doctor Who, Barbara/Ian, drabble

X - nothing to see here

Y - Yearning - The Adventures of Hal 5, The Vicar/Original Character, drabble

Z - nothing to see here

Which makes it 21/26. And turns out I have over 100 fics o_O

And now for some hot koffie another installement of the fanperson meme.

Who is your favorite character or member within your fandom, and why?
Ace. Came for the cool, stayed for some increbible character development.

What is your favorite installment, episode, or album from your fandom?
Ghost Light is the best DW story.

Do you have a favorite quote, lyric, or saying from your fandom?
I love the "There are worlds out there where the sky is burning" speech. Poetic, represents Doctor Who perfectly. The nicest way to end an era.

What’s your favorite fan-created content (art, music, video, story) related to your fandom?
Hard to decide. Maybe the whole work of one of the first people I followed here on Dreamwidth, who hasn't written for Doctor Who in years but I'm glad she's still going!

Who is your favorite pair or group within the fandom in terms of chemistry or dynamics?
The seventh Doctor and Ace :D

Do you have a preferred genre when it comes to fan fiction or fan works in your fandom?
I like to think I'm open to anything.

What’s your favorite piece of lore or backstory within your fandom’s universe?
I like the life cataloguer who hated evolution *is a Ghost Light enjoyer*

Is there a particular scene, moment, or episode that always makes you emotional or excited?
It has been almost 15 years but That Scene in The Curse of Fenric. It fucks me up every time.

What’s your preferred platform for engaging with fellow fans and content (forums, social media, etc.)?
Tumblr for Doctor Who (mostly rebligs), Dreamwidth for everything (even Icm not good at talking). Pillowfort is to have part-constructive, part-squeeful interactions with one cool person.

Can you name a favorite moment when the community came together to support the fandom or a cause?
There was a Barbara/Ian zine that raised money for breast cancer. Smaller than most zines I usually see, but it's still nice.

What’s your favorite way to show your fandom pride (cosplay, apparel, tattoos, etc.)?
I have three Van Gogh pins, so I guess that (one broke a few weeks ago, sad).

Who’s your favorite content creator, artist, or writer within the fandom, and what do you love about their work?
See the fan-created content question.

Note: I do not like the use of the word "content" when associtaed with fan-produced media, but that's a rant for another time.
scifirenegade: (confused)
I've been sick. Last night was particularly hellish.

Saw Hereditary. I'm glad there's many horror films in recent years that star great actresses. Us game to my mind when I finished watching it. No, 2018 was last year, not seven years go >:(

[personal profile] maevedarcy has a huge list of questions to ask a fangirl. I am no girl, but the questions appear interesting.

How did you first discover your main fandoms?
I may have told this story before. I was aware of Doctor Who, having watching bits and bobs of some episodes, but didn't really know what I was watching. While searching for Van Gogh documentaries on YouTube, a clip from Vincent and the Doctor sneaked in. That was the first time I had a name for the weird (affectionate) show. The rest is history.
As for Conrad Veidt, again, I was semi-aware after deciding that The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was a nice entryway to feature-length silent films. But it took years to learn more about him and get bonked on the head with the urge of "I must watch everything".

What was it about the fandom(s) that initially captured your interest?
Doctor Who: Time travel! Space! Aliens! Love and compassion!
Conrad Veidt: This man can do it all! He seems nice. He's making me feel things.

Can you recall a moment when you realized you were more than just a casual fan?
When you start non-stop drawing fanart, basically.

How has your interest in fandom evolved over time?
Doctor Whogrew until it stabilised, a few years ago. But it's still here, and will always be here.

Is there anyone in your life that shares your passion for fandom?
Nope.

How does your fandom inspire you in your everyday life?
More so my everyday life inspired my fandoms, if you think about it.

Does the fandom influence your personal style, hobbies, or interests?
The other way around.

Can you share a personal story related to your fandom that you cherish?
When I first joined Dreamwidth, I followed my favourite author, even if she hadn't updated in years. She sent me a message. I was chuffed to bits, even if it was a "hey I don't post here anymore, but thanks".

What valuable lessons have you learned from being part of fandom?
You can be as nice as you want, but that doesn't mean others will be in return. Don't bother with them.

Have you met any of your closest friends through a fandom?
Nope.

Are there any rituals or traditions you enjoy before new releases related to fandom?
No. I have yet to see the newest DW seasons. And the "new" releases of Connie material are not for us mere mortals.

If you could introduce someone new to fandom, how would you describe it to them.
Easy. There are a few newbies guides to DW, and Connie is just some guy.

Last song I listened to: Erasure's A Little Respect is the last one I remember hearing on the radio.
Favourite color: it's blue today
Currently watching: Finished Cinema Europe. Recommended (warning for Leni Riefenshtal or whatever her name is).
Last movie: Sex in Chains (1928). The Busters I watched were shorties.
Currently reading: Continental Strangers by by Gerd Gemünden
Coffee or tea: today it's coffee. Tomorrow, who knows...
Sweet/savoury/spicy: I'll take whatever
Relationship status: forever single
Looking forward to: finishing my bitch thesis (affectionate; I just learnt that what we call dissertation is a thesis in English. Oops)
Current obsessions:

Send help, I hate it here.
Last Googled: gwpda org (apparently a website that has a lot of WW1 documents. Didn't have what I was looking for though...)
Last thing you ate and really enjoyed: Chicken.
Currently working on: too many things. And brain don't work well.

In other news, a whole page of Torstens (feat. radio!Torsten and cat!Torsten. Even if it's lonely, and in the past, hellish, to be into Mr. Tall Man, it was fun drawing his tuxedo-clad Lucifer.)

Fun video finds (all links to YouTube): a PBS broadcast of some excerpts from Anders als die Andern, introduced by Vito Russo! Unclear when it was aired, sometime in the 80s probably. And while looking for decent-ish version of Opium (I wanted to look at those beautiful, beautiful shots of baby!Connie again, and I only have them on the computer), found this multi-film fanvid for silent films! Feels like old YouTube in the best way possible. So many eras and genres here. Warning for Un Chien Andalou and some bastardised colourisation work.

The shots in question )

Oh, [personal profile] prettygoodword's most recent word is apotropaic! One of my favourite words.
scifirenegade: (Default)
Had to. There's one thing here that's been rattling in brain.

A - Your current OTP
Barbara/Ian forever. Barbarian, if you will.

B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind
My first thought was Ahmad/Jaffar of The Thief of Bagdad fame (all because of a fanvid), but I'm not in that fandom.

C - A pairing you have never liked and probably never will
Will not answer. Not because I'm afraid of being crucified, I just don't want to rain on people's parades.

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t
Read number C.

E - Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
It's all drops in the ocean, but yes. What? Pretty much everything I've ever drawn and written :P

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
Doctor Who. (Would say Pókemon, but I don't do much besides looking at fanart.)

G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it?
No idea. Belle/Beast? Willy Fogg/Romy? Robin Hood/Maid Marion? Who knows?

H - Do you prefer characters from real action series or anime series?
While I like anime, I'm more of a live-action person. But this is comparing apples and oranges.

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Not exactly Tumblr, and I didn't stop liking it, just became more shut off from it.
And people say I lack social skills...

J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over Tumblr
I guess Caligari? I never expected a silent film to have such a fandom. It makes sense here, there's so many loose ends and vagueness you can pick at and discuss, it's a beautiful-looking film, so lots of art the somnambulist is hot.

K - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom?
I have curated my DW fandom experience so well over the years I like it here. Granted, it's mostly classic Who.
The Conrad Veidt fandom has great artists. Yeah.

L - Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for?
The next part of the series?

M - Your favorite fanart or fanartist?
I can't choose just one.
Connie Veidt as Leyendecker socks man be upon thee

N - Your favorite fanfiction or fanauthor?
I love thisiszircon's Undercurrents.

O - Choose a song at random, which OTP does it remind you of
My one weakness!
Pet Shop Boys - Suburbia
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)
Sir meme, I have been haunted by the three sentence fic/drabble fusion of Ich und die Kaiserin and The Phantom of the Opera (1925 film edition). No need for more inventions.
Wait. Since Captain Hardt is in Anno Dracula (and a vampire), The Spy in Black AU but Hardt is a vampire and survives. \o/

Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and why
Never. They stick together till the ends of time.

R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships
All the rarepairs from the teeny tiny fandoms ('cept Kurt/Paul Anders als die Andern, Droste/Ellissen of FP1 and Lancelot/Lynette of anything Arthurian.)
Or Erik/Me.

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon
Erik dyes his hair white. Or his valet does. All for the aesthetic.

T - If you mostly have homoships, do you have any heteroships?
This! This was what's bugging me because I've never heard the terms "homoship" and "hereroship". Are they recent terms? Or are they older but more obscure?
I dunno.

U - If you mostly have heteroships, do you have any homoships?
Read T.

V - Are you one of those fans who can’t watch anything without shipping?
Don't think so.

W - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms
Did this here

X - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms
Doctor Who - Barbara/Ian <3
Anders als die Andern - Kurt/Paul (obviously)
The Spy in Black - Hardt/Bütter

Y - A fandom you’re in but have no ships from
Caligari, probably.
Wait no, those three dudes. They're basically canon, that doesn't count.

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go
Connie's films should be more readily available. By this time last year, we got one previously unavailable film. Where's Hektor Dalmore? Christian Wahnschaffe? (What other unavailable films have people's names as the title?)
At least there's still

Stolen from here.

1. The last sentence you wrote.
Such was the life of a musician.

2. A character whose POV you’re currently exploring.
Well, I took a break from those forever WIPs to do an Anders als die Andern fic, so it's Paul.

3. How you feel about your current WIP.
New short Paul fic: eh
Oberaertz thing: I can't look at it anymore
Barbara's TARDIS adventure fic: lmao

4. A story idea you haven’t written yet.
Went to the ideas list, and saw something about Ian being afraid of ducks. Let's go with that.

5. First sentence of the fifth paragraph of an unpublished WIP.
From the new short Paul fic:
It took a lot of courage from him to take his parents to the doctor.

From the Oberaertz thing:
With an instantaneous head turn, that stern blue gaze of his found her amidst the dimness, cutting her right through.

From the Barbara's TARDIS adventure fic:
Barbara may have been exhausted, but gathered the strength to tend to her equally fatigued companions.

Normal stuff.

6. The word that appears the most in your current draft (wordcounter.net can tell you).
New short Paul fic: time
Oberaertz thing: one
Barbara's TARDIS adventure: after

7. Your preferred writing fonts.
My handwriting. When I write on the computer, Times New Roman because I'm basic.

8. If you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for…
Doctor Who and the Watermen, because the Watermen are funky little guys and I did so much worldbuilding for them that has gone unused.

9. Start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted?
One day. If it doesn't take me a day to write a fic, it takes months lol

10. What is the longest amount of time you’ve let a draft rest before you finished it?
*sideeyes the Barbara TARDIS fic that has been sitting there for over a year*

11. A WIP you’d like to finish someday.
That one up there.

12. A trope you’re really into right now.
Whatever Maria and Captain von Trapp have going on, apparently.

13. A fandom you’re thinking about writing for.
Anno Dracula. I haven't even read it but from the things I know...

14. Where do you get your inspiration?
Right now?

15. Favorite weather for writing.
As long as I'm not freezing or sweating, I'm fine.

16. Favorite place to write.
At a table. That's all.

17. Talk about your writing and editing process.
Throw words on the page, see if it sticks. Then rewrite 50 times. Throw some more words. Rewrite again. Panic.

18. If you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic.
I would have to scourge my notebook, and I don't feel like readimg the finished piece and the drafts to see what's different.

19. The most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic.
WW1 German uniforms and I barely used what I learnt in the fic. The research curse!

20. In what year did you publish your first fic?
Can't remember. It doesn't matter, it no longer exists.

21. When did you publish your most recent fic?
Exactly a week ago.

22. Do you ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? How do you get past that?
Yes, but if I don't do it, who will? Who looks at Ich und die Kaiserin and says "I wanna write fic of that"??

23. Pick three keywords that describe your writing.
Short, introspective, amateur.

24. How do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative?
I let it be.

25. Besides writing, what are your other hobbies?
I'm a visual artist first and foremost.

26. Are you able to write with other people around?
As long as they aren't talking to me.

27. Your favorite part of the writing process.
*sweats nervously* Seeing the ideas come to life on paper? Same with drawing, really.

28. Your least favorite part of the writing process.
Words, what are they?

29. How easy is it for you to come up with titles?
Not very. It's why I have fics titled "Investigating". Wow, incredible, stunning.

30. Share a fic you’re especially proud of.
Denouement, the Dark Journey fic. Still proud of that one :D
scifirenegade: The Master is reading War of the Worlds. (reading | delgado!master)
Stalking the feed for 3W4D, saw this.

Three weeks for Dreamwidth: Name five characters from five different fandoms that you like.

1. Doctor Who - Ace
The character who made me watch the classic series, and fall deeply in love with it. "80s personified", not just in terms of culture, but also progressive politics (the seventh Doctor era was filled to the brim with new, young writers). She's more. The girl from a broken home who grows up. Her relationship with the Doctor is the best ever.

2. The Adventures of Sir Lancelot - Brian
It would be too easy to just choose Lancelot. Brian is a brave kitchen boy who wants to be a knight. And despite the prejudice he's forced to endure, still carries on (helped by Lancelot and Merlin). He's also adorable.

3. Anders als die Andern - Kurt
Again, it would be too easy to choose Paul. The sad thing is, a lot of Kurt's side of the story is lost. There's some wonder to him. He's already in love with Paul ("Young Kurt Sivers never misses
a concert by Paul Körner.", gee, I wonder why?), so him asking for violin lessons is him seeking for knowledge, not just about music, but about himself. I dunno man, I just think he's neat.

4. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Cesare
Okay, choosing the milquetoast answer lol. If you ask anyone about Caligari (the film), they'll talk about the ~ german expressionist style ~ and "goth icon" Cesare, who's barely in the film. He haunts the shadows, doesn't he? And with how vague the plot is, you kinda have to puzzle who Cesare is, and everyone has a different interpretation. It's great.

5. Ich und die Kaiserin - André Robert Maxime aka the Marquis
Honestly, all the characters (and I'm speaking solely about characters) are fun. You could choose whoever. But this guy is so stupidly endearing and endearingly stupid. And prinzessin; he's so glittery and pretty and he would be some great arm-candy (can you tell I think he's husband material lol).
("Fandom", I'm the only person on it. But hey, I love this film, I'll take all the chances I can to talk about it.)
scifirenegade: Steven is beardy and happy! (steven)
Stole a meme from the bowels of LJ.

Go to your current work in progress and share the following:

The first paragraph of the work.

The Barbara Searching for the TARDIS' Wine Cellar fic:

It was one of those days.

The Oberaertz thing:

She tugged at the coarse rope binding her wrists, filled with fiery determination to free herself and run, run out of the window and away, never to be found again, but she was out of luck. The more she fought against the knot — tied with a skilful hand behind the backrest of the, frankly, not uncomfortable chair —, the more it constricted her. The harsh fibres grazed against her skin, leaving behind patchy marks of a wretched red. Painful, for sure, but those marks wouldn't be permanent. They weren't cutting her to the bone. Pausing her struggle, her hands flexed in an attempt to keep the blood flowing.

Very different vibes here.

The first paragraph of your current chapter (or if it's a one-shot, the first line of the tenth paragraph).

Gonna be the tenth paragraph thing. First is Barbara Wine fic, second is Oberaertz thing:

If only she knew the food machine's code for wine.

Almost.

Lol. It appears I really love single sentence paragraphs.

The last paragraph you wrote.

Oberaertz:

"Well, look at her now..."

-_-'

A line for a chapter/part you haven't written yet.

I don't get this. If I haven't written it yet, how can I have a line to share? Help?
