Stolen from here.

1. The last sentence you wrote.
Such was the life of a musician.

2. A character whose POV you’re currently exploring.
Well, I took a break from those forever WIPs to do an Anders als die Andern fic, so it's Paul.

3. How you feel about your current WIP.
New short Paul fic: eh
Oberaertz thing: I can't look at it anymore
Barbara's TARDIS adventure fic: lmao

4. A story idea you haven’t written yet.
Went to the ideas list, and saw something about Ian being afraid of ducks. Let's go with that.

5. First sentence of the fifth paragraph of an unpublished WIP.
From the new short Paul fic:
It took a lot of courage from him to take his parents to the doctor.

From the Oberaertz thing:
With an instantaneous head turn, that stern blue gaze of his found her amidst the dimness, cutting her right through.

From the Barbara's TARDIS adventure fic:
Barbara may have been exhausted, but gathered the strength to tend to her equally fatigued companions.

Normal stuff.

6. The word that appears the most in your current draft (wordcounter.net can tell you).
New short Paul fic: time
Oberaertz thing: one
Barbara's TARDIS adventure: after

7. Your preferred writing fonts.
My handwriting. When I write on the computer, Times New Roman because I'm basic.

8. If you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for…
Doctor Whocand the Watermen, because the Watermen are funky little guys and I did so much worldbuilding for them that has gone unused.

9. Start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted?
One day. If it doesn't take me a day to write a fic, it takes months lol

10. What is the longest amount of time you’ve let a draft rest before you finished it?
*sideeyes the Barbara TARDIS fic that has been sitting there for over a year*

11. A WIP you’d like to finish someday.
That one up there.

12. A trope you’re really into right now.
Whatever Maria and Captain von Trapp have going on, apparently.

13. A fandom you’re thinking about writing for.
Anno Dracula. I haven't even read it but from the things I know...

14. Where do you get your inspiration?
Right now?

15. Favorite weather for writing.
As long as I'm not freezing or sweating, I'm fine.

16. Favorite place to write.
At a table. That's all.

17. Talk about your writing and editing process.
Throw words on the page, see if it sticks. Then rewrite 50 times. Throw some more words. Rewrite again. Panic.

18. If you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic.
I would have to scourge my noteboom, and I don't feel like readimg the finished piece and the drafts to see what's different.

19. The most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic.
WW1 German uniforms and I barely used what I learnt in the fic. The research curse!

20. In what year did you publish your first fic?
Can't remember. It doesn't matter, it no longer exists.

21. When did you publish your most recent fic?
Exactly a week ago.

22. Do you ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? How do you get past that?
Yes, but if I don't do it, who will? Who looks at Ich und die Kaiserin and says "I wanna write fic of that"??

23. Pick three keywords that describe your writing.
Short, introspective, amateur.

24. How do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative?
I let it be.

25. Besides writing, what are your other hobbies?
I'm a visual artist first and foremost.

26. Are you able to write with other people around?
As long as they aren't talking to me.

27. Your favorite part of the writing process.
*sweats nervously* Seeing the ideas come to life on paper? Same with drawing, really.

28. Your least favorite part of the writing process.
Words, what are they?

29. How easy is it for you to come up with titles?
Not very. It's why I have fics titled "Investigating". Wow, incredible, stunning.

30. Share a fic you’re especially proud of.
Denouement, the Dark Journey fic. Still proud of that one :D

That pic of Connie by his bookshelf, at his home in Hampstead (link goes to the Allen bio; there's a better pic but can't link to it for reasons beyond my control). I'm a snoop, I was trying to discover what sort of books he had. The only one I could make out was Brot und Wein, an anti-fascist novel. Not to be confused with Wien und der Wein, the godawful Der Kongress Tanzt song. Neat-o.

His nose is crooked! It leans a little bit to his left side. Love that.

The Oberaertz fic is still kicking. The build-up is almost cleaned up (hehe), but I'm having trouble with the rest. How do you make your protag more proactive when she's tied up?

Just finished more Satanas fanart (hence the OMG nose thing).

You know, it's Le génie du mal, that "sexy" Satan statue. And that scary Lucifer painting by Stuck.

Did you know there are surviving Connie clips from Satanas? But they're stuck in some Japanese archive? Sigh.

Still have that same feeling I'm inconveniencing people when interacting. Plus, that feeling that when people talk to me it's out of pity, or out of obligation. I've been going out more, and I've met new people, but it always feels like there's a wall between me and others. It's a weird loop.

Anyway, weird-looking cigarette card. Found here.

They found a whole episode of Suncoast Digest featuring Christine Chubbuck! Months ago, but still.

YouTube link here, the original upload is also in the description.

Like how many people only remember Van Gogh by the ear incident, people only remember Chubbuck by her last appearance on television (search for it at your own risk). It saddens me, she truly was passionate about journalism, and hated how sensationalist it got. I'm glad there are others out there who see her as a human being. It's all about compassion.

On a nicer, more comical note, on Christmas Eve, I rewatched The Passing of the Third Floor Back, which is always a heartwarming thing to do, albeit bittersweet.

I also rewatched Escape, because I thought the Oberaertz I was wriring in my Very Indulgent Thing was a bit too Von Kolb-ey. And I was right, he feels very Von Kolb-ey. Terrifying.

Also I had to stop to do something, and came back to this.

Truly the most eyebrow to ever eyebrow.

(Learnt that Cukor did some uncredited work here too. Maybe he should've directed the whole film.)

Yesterday, I found Conrad Veidt: My Life in random Russian site. Very Windows Movie Maker. Also, My Life my arse, it's random opinions about films and mostly random opinions about people. The narrator is doing the worst German accent (get it, 'cause it's Connie telling the story hahaha).

I knew it was gonna be bad, since I read chiaroscuros' thoughts, but gee. Nobody really knows how to do a decent biographical work on Herr Veidt??

(Apparently that 80s German documentary is factually decent, and very well written, with lots of lyrical word usage. I don't know.)

I have yet to snoop the Yuletide entries. I have to snoop a lot of exchange entries this year.

As always, very tired and down. I am, however, in tears, because Fátima Opera Rock. Just... Wow...

I'm just surprised it's a thing. Portugal is extremely catholic, I wonder what the reception will be. (My mother thought Jesus Christ Superstar was blasphemy o_o)

Forgot to share. For the occasion of William Russell's 100th birthday!

Because he did play Mr. Rochester in a stage production of Jane Eyre! All the pics suck, so artistic liberties were taken.

I miss him.

I haven't progressed in the Veidtwatch much. Not because I'm tired of him (oh never; if that happens, consider that my evil mirror self has killed me and took my place). It's just... people... they drain me...

Screw that, look at this! Gigantic Conrad Veidt film cycle! In 2018. Sigh.

It's 30+ films that range from easy to find to "you have to ask the right people to get it" (alas, Dida Ibsen and Christian Wahnschaffe are stuck in archive hell, and therefore unavailable to us mere mortals). The first film shown was Ich und die Kaiserin even!

You bet I would skip all my exams and rob a bank haha just kidding to be there. If I knew about it. No wonder no one told me, I would've been even more insufferable lol

Didn't do very well, apparently, that's a shame.

Here's the programme in PDF. Warning: Veidt Stare (TM).

Since 1 January 2019, the Film Heritage Funding Programme (FFE) of the BKM, the federal states and the FFA has been providing up to 10 million euros annually for the digitisation of cinema films for a period of ten years.

For the feature-length fiction and documentary films in this funding programme, filmportal.de is providing the respective film beginnings. An overview of all funded films on filmportal.de can be found here.

Further information can be found at www.ffa.de

Another thing to turn me into an insufferable bastard that makes people complain when I'm not looking probs.

HD digitalisations! So shiny and HD! Sadly, we only get clips...

Films that tickle my fancy for obvious reasons:

There's also clips for Alraune and Ariane, which also caught my eye.

EDIT: Dürfen wir schweigen? (1926) and Die Letzte Kompagnie (1930) have also been digitised. And what in the world is Das Kabinett des Dr. Larifari??

For the past two weeks I've been writing, in a fugue state, what can only be described as "weird Oberaertz thing". Very self-indulgent. Also almost 2k words long and I'm still in the beginning. If people are allowed write their self-indulgences, so can I!

When will my wife (the Internet Archive) come back from the war?

Granted she wouldn't need to go to war if she had her security in check and wasn't outdated as hell but still

It has occurred to me that The Last Performance will become public domain next year. Free-to-use Erik! oh no

I've gotten plot bunnies for a pre-canon fic (there was a Brazillian magazine called Scena Muda, and one issue gave Erik a whole backstory, very possibly coming from production notes). Apparently he was a Russian noble that fled Russia after the revolution and ended up working as an illusionist's assistant in Hungary. And then he got really damn good. Good for him.

Even more) random thought: Sir Lancelot fanvids. There's only four, but I'm glad they exist.

General coolness and thirst under the cut )

The art slump really never left. I feel like my art has gotten worse even (not that it was any good).

Have some more AADA fanart anyway...

The blue cornflowers are a headcanon by [archiveofourown.org profile] Ailren. For the Rarest of Rarepairs ficathon (that allows art as well).

Also for Rarest of Rarepairs, we never got to see the scene in which Kurt finds out Paul's dead. So there. Made myself cry.
Don't read the paper, it's complete nonsense probably

When did you start writing fanfic? Do you still write in the fandom you started with? And how many fandoms have you written for? Also, when did you first learn about fanfiction in the first place? And how did you even find out? Did you search for it, or did you just stumble across it by chance?

It was many, many years ago. I didn't even know what fanfiction was. I wrote the piece for a school assignment (I think I was in 3rd grade?). It was for King Arthur's Disasters. That was the first and last time I wrote for that fandom (does it even have one?).

I primarly write for Doctor Who; however, I have been branching out. I have written for 10 different fandoms, all but one (the aforementioned DW) are obscure. I ended up creating the tags for Ich und die Kaiserin, The Blue Parrot and Contraband (1940) on AO3 lol.

I was introduced to fanfiction by an old goth acquaintance back when we were 12/13. She was reading fic for some anime, told me about it, and when I asked if there was some for DW, she said that there's fic about everything (oh, the naivety of children). I started reading on FanFiction.Net, but it was too dry when it came to Classic Who (well, the parts of Classic Who I was interested in anyway). I ended up immersing myself on Teaspoon and defunct Livejournal blogs and communities. Then came AO3.

Hahaha so many...

I haven't drawn in ages. I've been so caught up with uni work, I haven't had the time and energy to do it. Same goes for writing, at least the big writing projects.

But! I have some old concepts for one piece of Ich und die Kaiserin fanart! It needs to be reworked, though.

I'm writing a crack!fic featuring Barbara exploring the TARDIS in search of wine. Except it now explores the relationship between Barbara and the TARDIS. But it's also ridiculous.

Another fic I'm writing features the Doctor, Vicki and Steven going to an alien theme park! It's only missing The One Big Important Scene(TM), and then it shall be cleaned and edited.

What I've been doing mostly is icons (I got carried away iconing (?) The Last Performance) and writing the tiniest of fics over at [community profile] threesentenceficathon.
scifirenegade: Herr Veidt lying down on a sofa. No idea what he's thinking. (connie)
You know, first month of uni, lots of work, blah blah. The good thing is that I can "recycle" some old themes, which means I have half of the things done :D

Oh no, he's still talking about Conrad Veidt, send help! )

Hit a bit of a roadblock on the Barbara and the TARDIS crack!fic, so I'm working on something else in the meantime. Poor Barbara, I promise to get back to you.

I have not forgotten about those P&P adaptations! And Blake's 7! (Will probably watch one or two eps of the 80s P&P series tonight).
scifirenegade: (facepalm)
A few months ago, I had a brain melt and had to share it on good ol' Tumblr.

"My brain melted and started thinking about the beginning of The Web Planet and Barbara casually drinking from the Roman goblet. And then I thought:

"Barbara goes to explore the depths of the TARDIS in search of the wine cellar, because she has gone through so much and she deserves a drink dammit."

And it had the tag: let 👏 babs 👏 drink

And the always wonderful [tumblr.com profile] notbarbara-yetaxa replied with "I need this fanfic." And because I have no self-control, behold, I am writing it.

The problem is that it went from "crack treated seriously, Babs is having a bad day and goes to find a drink for relaxation purposes" to "an exploration of the relationship between Barbara and the TARDIS, hopefully it's still funny". Guess this is what happens when you only have a thin outline for a story.

So I want to ask anyone who sees this and does art, be it writing, drawing, sculpting, whatever: have you ever had certain expectations and ideas for a certain piece, and as you work on them, they shift into a completely different direction? How do you feel about that?
