Searching for Conrad Veidt fanvids gives you the usual: your Million Dollar Mans and your I'm in Love with a German Film Stars. They're vids made of awesome! I love them! But I wanted to see if there were more fanvids. Maybe not Connie-related ones per se, but anything related to his films.
There are several vids for The Man Who Laughs (half of them comedic, half of them serious). There's one for Caligari that's almost as old as YouTube itself. They're crusty, as in, they're old. That good crust.
Casablanca vids are very much a thing. There's a very recent one that came out during FestiVids. Still need to see it.
And then there's
Now, I'm not that big of a fan of The Thief of Bagdad. I don't hate it, but for me it's just meh. It's even meh-er now than it was when I first saw it, but that wasn't really the film's fault. It's a whole thing, we would be here forever. (Beautiful blue eyes are, however, still beautiful. If I ever say otherwise, consider me replaced by my evil mirror!self.)
But, dude, your mind! First, monofandom vids for films of yesteryear are rare as hell. You got me there. Then, you don't go for a canon pair, or the popular fanon pair. You go for a non-obvious non-canon pair. Spack off, Jaffar/Princess and Abu/Ahmad!
And it's so. Well. Edited! The shot choices are very clever. The vidder made actual assets made for this. Actual footage was edited to make sense within the AU. There's genuine love and care here. And I applaud it. Well done, mate!
(Not Connie related, but for a change, have this Buster Keaton fanvid, because it's a fun time. The lyrics interpretations are so fun.)
