We are halfway through the year, and I've watched Lon Chaney's Phantom twice.

Georges Méliès's Rip van Winkle synced to the operetta (YouTube link). Makes it all the more enjoyable *has never heard of Rip van Winkle in his life*

(via hanswalterconradveidt on Tumblr)

Can't get over him drinking Coca Cola. With a straw!

I dunno man. Staged photo, yeah, they all are, but it's still a good reminder that he was a human being.

No idea what Norma Shearer is doing.

Buffo <3

Am I doing this right? Am I cool with the kids?

Forever grateful to have all of you in my life. Even if we don't talk much. Also grateful for one person who isn't on here, but someplace else on-the-line. And a few people IRL as well.

Hope the positive feelings are mutual. It can be hard to tell. Learnt that the hard way.

(No reason for writing this last bit. Just wanted to let you all know <3 )

Phone updated. Thought it was a security and performance patch, not a whole visual overhaul of the operating system. It makes it look like an iPhone now. Not my jam. The icons are so busy with so many colours.

And AI. They put an AI on my phone. Disabled it, have no need for it.

Had some dark chocolate with chilli flakes. It's good!

A bit tired to do a post for 3W4D (almost a week streak, broken...). Will catch up on the reading list tomorrow.

Been thinking of creating another community. Terrifying.

Feeling better. Joint pain creams are a blessing.

Ida Lupino with bonus Conrad Veidt giving autographs (link goes to Alamy). Funny and adorable faces warning :D

Half-watched 2 random Italian films that I had to look up the name of. Rapito (2023) and Lazzaro felice (2018) (this last one I thought was much older at first). And with half-watching I mean I caught them halfway through. Will say, Lazzaro is a beautiful-looking film (the bits I'vr seen that is.

Saw Coppola's Jack too. Blergh.

Have a publicity pic from Le Joueur d'échecs.

That pic of Connie by his bookshelf, at his home in Hampstead (link goes to the Allen bio; there's a better pic but can't link to it for reasons beyond my control). I'm a snoop, I was trying to discover what sort of books he had. The only one I could make out was Brot und Wein, an anti-fascist novel. Not to be confused with Wien und der Wein, the godawful Der Kongress Tanzt song. Neat-o.

His nose is crooked! It leans a little bit to his left side. Love that.

The Oberaertz fic is still kicking. The build-up is almost cleaned up (hehe), but I'm having trouble with the rest. How do you make your protag more proactive when she's tied up?

Just finished more Satanas fanart (hence the OMG nose thing).

You know, it's Le génie du mal, that "sexy" Satan statue. And that scary Lucifer painting by Stuck.

Did you know there are surviving Connie clips from Satanas? But they're stuck in some Japanese archive? Sigh.

Still have that same feeling I'm inconveniencing people when interacting. Plus, that feeling that when people talk to me it's out of pity, or out of obligation. I've been going out more, and I've met new people, but it always feels like there's a wall between me and others. It's a weird loop.

Anyway, weird-looking cigarette card. Found here.

1. What is the oldest object in the room with you?
Not counting books, since I have quite a few old ones. After my grandmother's death (starting ln a high note here), I inherited some of her stuff. The oldest being:

  • Two small ceramic boxes, which I use to store my earrings. Nan would be proud.

  • A brooch with a Fragonard drawing repro in enamel. It's broken :(

  • Nan collected porcelain dolls. I have one. I own one of my nightmares.

2. What is the newest?
Two books: Murdle Volume 1 (I've been obssessed) and a quite fancy Kafka's Metamorphosis.

3. What is your favorite object in the room with you?
Little bunny plushie I've owned since day one of my life. Yeah.

4. What is the most valuable object?
My computer.

5. What is the ugliest object?
The doll. Sorry, Nan, but you know I never liked the dolls. Still love the little thing.

As always, very tired and down. I am, however, in tears, because Fátima Opera Rock. Just... Wow...

I'm just surprised it's a thing. Portugal is extremely catholic, I wonder what the reception will be. (My mother thought Jesus Christ Superstar was blasphemy o_o)

Forgot to share. For the occasion of William Russell's 100th birthday!

Because he did play Mr. Rochester in a stage production of Jane Eyre! All the pics suck, so artistic liberties were taken.

I miss him.

I haven't progressed in the Veidtwatch much. Not because I'm tired of him (oh never; if that happens, consider that my evil mirror self has killed me and took my place). It's just... people... they drain me...

Screw that, look at this! Gigantic Conrad Veidt film cycle! In 2018. Sigh.

It's 30+ films that range from easy to find to "you have to ask the right people to get it" (alas, Dida Ibsen and Christian Wahnschaffe are stuck in archive hell, and therefore unavailable to us mere mortals). The first film shown was Ich und die Kaiserin even!

You bet I would skip all my exams and rob a bank haha just kidding to be there. If I knew about it. No wonder no one told me, I would've been even more insufferable lol

Didn't do very well, apparently, that's a shame.

Here's the programme in PDF. Warning: Veidt Stare (TM).

Since 1 January 2019, the Film Heritage Funding Programme (FFE) of the BKM, the federal states and the FFA has been providing up to 10 million euros annually for the digitisation of cinema films for a period of ten years.

For the feature-length fiction and documentary films in this funding programme, filmportal.de is providing the respective film beginnings. An overview of all funded films on filmportal.de can be found here.

Further information can be found at www.ffa.de

Another thing to turn me into an insufferable bastard that makes people complain when I'm not looking probs.

HD digitalisations! So shiny and HD! Sadly, we only get clips...

Films that tickle my fancy for obvious reasons:

There's also clips for Alraune and Ariane, which also caught my eye.

EDIT: Dürfen wir schweigen? (1926) and Die Letzte Kompagnie (1930) have also been digitised. And what in the world is Das Kabinett des Dr. Larifari??

For the past two weeks I've been writing, in a fugue state, what can only be described as "weird Oberaertz thing". Very self-indulgent. Also almost 2k words long and I'm still in the beginning. If people are allowed write their self-indulgences, so can I!

It is the good brother in [Nazi Agent] who is the more important to me, especially at this time, when the need for good in the world is so great. We are all poor now inside, with so much that we valued taken out of us, but there will always be love.

The Youtube channel behind the original upload got taken down. Thankfully, there's a mirror on the Internet Archive. Dunno who did that (,,¬﹏¬,,)

Remember when I said I was watching Rome Express? While, I was halfway through and got a bunch of tasks thrown on me. Sigh. And then got sick again! What is happening??
