Barely half, it seems. Of course, when I started to watch these, I tended to favour the "weirder" films, the more different from contemporary film, the better.

I think I've done worse than you! But I don't get paid or a career for watching silent films so I won't be filling in the gaps. The list seems more 100 silent films most people have watched to me! I would define "top" as really good in some way. That said, I've got Last of the Mohicans to watch as Boris Karloff is in it so I'm now hopeful it won't be a snoozefest. Don't think the ones on the 'net have a good picture though.

Considering that Griffith is all over the list, yeah, this isn't the "good films" list. The ones I watched were painful and I wished I got my time back. Wouldn't even think to call them "influential".

This copy appears decent-ish, at least. I'm unfamiliar with Last of the Mohicans, so I hope it's not boring too. But when you get around to it, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Yeah, having the Ku Klux Klan as goodies doesn't say "good"! The only Griffith's film I can remember seeing was The White Rose and that annoyed the hell out of me. I thought it was sexist but I read a review that found it feminist, so I dunno!

\o/ for searching around, the upload does indeed look marginally better than the one I have, hurrah! Probably still won't see Boris, I think it's a third on the left in a crowd role, but at least my eyes won't hurt as much. Hopefully the film will be decent and not toooo dodgy since it has Native Americans in and they don't do too well in old films.

I guess "different syrokes for different folks"? But I'll take your word for it.

(Saw someone say "skip Birth of a Nation and just watch Within our Gates" and yeah. That's a much, much more interesting film. Oscar Micheaux was a pioneer in several ways.)

It's alright. There are some films I wished were there. More European and Asian films (A Page of Madness, Rye's or Galeen's The Student of Prague, for instance).

I've seen more of these than I thought at first! And I wish there were more LGBT+-related silent films on the list, other than "Pandora's box", and "Wings", if we're feeling generous!

Yeah, yeah, yeah! There are so many great films that should've been here, be either queer films or non-North American films.
