There's a lot of pieces I actually like here. The April, May and October ones are some of my favourites in all of my art years. There were risks taken: I did some figures studies, thumbnailing, perspective work... So I'm happy. There's still room for improvement, but after years and years of hating 98% of what I do, I'm happy.
I started writing again. After years of not writing, or writing a piece and immediately abandon it.
And then I did a meme.
Total Number of Completed Stories: 8
Overall Thoughts: Didn't break my secret goal of 10k words for the year, and didn't finish my two WIPs, but that's okay.
Are the stories good? No. But I wrote them. I wrote some silly little stories, when I expected to never write again. That's a good enough achievement.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Welp, never expected to write a fic for a somewhat obscure 1930s German romantic comedy operetta with the actor who did Cesare the somnambulist, but here we are.
And he's not even in it! What the hell!
My favorite story this year (of my own): It has to be After Classes. It's my first story in forever, and I know it's really short, but it's the one which started it all. (Honourable mention for Side Effects. You are my magnum opus, but you wouldn't exist without After Classes)
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I wrote. Point. That was a risk.
I learnt nothing.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? 1) Break the 10k words threshold. 2) Finish my two WIPs. 3) Make a bingo on Gen Prompt Bingo.
My most popular story of this year: Side Effects did surprisingly well (no really, it was a surprise). After Classes seems to have the most hits, which is also mind-blowing.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Eh, they all got what they deserved, if not more.
Most fun story to write: Will say Doctor Who and the Watermen. Wrote that one while also writing Side Effects (when I was stuck on how to proceed) and used it to just relax. It's stupid, but made me happy :3
Sexiest story: I don't write smut. Okay, I wrote whatever the hell THAT thing was, so I guess that. And it's not even sexy!
Most fun story: Doctor Who and the Watermen I guess.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: None. Been watching Classic Who for over 10 years, my mind is set and will never change. I'm a mule.
Hardest story to write: Side Effects, absolutely. Several months in the making, that one. My first foray into the angst (TM).
Biggest disappointment: In a way, Side Effects. No, I will not elaborate.
Biggest surprise: Not Meant to Be, because I never expected to write a) Ich und die Kaiserin fic (the first one ever apparently), b) a perfect drabble and c) writing something that features Connie Veidt all over the source material, and making his character not be in the fic.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: That one. You know.
Easiest story to write: Button Troubles I think. That one was a breeze.
Hardest character to write: Susan. Followed by Barbara. I love them, but they don't come easy.
Favorite character to write: Gee I wonder who- it's Ian.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: After Classes, I think. Mostly character pieces, short, First Doctor era-related.
I didn't read as many books as I wished (well, reading for my pleasure).
And yet another meme.
How many books did you read this year?
Eight, even if my bookwyrm says otherwise.
Did you reread anything? What?
Haven't finished it yet, but I'm rereading Van Gogh: The Life and Byzantium! (the exclamation point is part of the title).
Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
Got a new appreciation for Jane Austen. Need to read Emma again, give it another chance. Or just start Persuasion.
Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
Ahahaha so many. Persuasion, The Many Faces of Weimar Cinema, the new Anders als die Andern book, The High History of the Grail...
Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?
Nope. I wanted to finish read ten books, not start twenty.
What genre did you read the most of?
Historical romance apparently. Oh dear...
Did you get into any new genres?
Whatever Pride and Prejudice is. And Arthuriana.
What was your favorite new release of the year?
I read old book only.
And the oldest published book you read this year?
Chretien de Troyes' Four Arthurian Romances.
Any books that disappointed you?
I guess De Troyes' Perceval? Not because it's bad, I just can't stand Percival it seems.
Any book unexpectedly good?
Pride and Prejudice (the book of all time).
Favourite book read in your own language?
Hahahahahaha (oh god I didn't read The Little Prince this year)
Most books read by a single author:
I had a very varied year.
Favourite character encountered this year:
Lancelot is so stupid I love him.
The beginning of a book series:
...Erec and Enide?
The end of a book series:
... Knight of the Cart?
What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
Look, Van Gogh: The Life is huuuuuge and Byzantium! is awful. It's impossible to finish them this year.
A favourite of this year:
Pride and Prejudice. I told you it was the book of all time.

Fandom in review meme
Your main fandom of the year?
Doctor Who, what else? It's been my thing since 2010 or smth.
Your favorite film watched this year?
I didn't watch that many contemporary films. So Ich und die Kaiserin? I really liked The Last Performance as well.
Your favorite book read this year?
Pride and Prejudice, hands down (okay I'm rereading that huuuuge Van Gogh biography, which is incredible, but I'm still not finished).
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
I have Depeche Mode brainrot. That's all I listened to this year basically. I'm gonna go with Violator, because it has Enjoy the Silence and that's constantly playing in my brain.
Your favorite TV show of the year?
Pride and Prejudice (1995). I'm still cautious over RTD 2.0.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Does one guy count as a fandom? If so, Herr Veidt?
It's really weird, I'm so used to enjoying an actor's work pretty much by myself, and then this guy breaks into my house with his legion of fans. Guess I'm partying with you all.
I wasn't too active in the P&P fandom, basically read some fic.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Eh it's everything I expected tbh
Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
I would say Ian but I'm no homewrecker. (I'm seriously considering Erik)
Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
I would say Barbara but I'm no- you know what, fuck it, we throuple. (Bye Erik, you have your own love square)
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Someone made a thirst video and a gifset of Russell!Lancelot! And a thirst video of Bill Hartnell in Appointment with Crime! What a time to be alive!
Oh, and someone reblogged a lot of my art and praised it!
And how could I forget, Jane Eyre (1963) was uploaded to the internets!
The most missed of your old fandoms?
None? My "old" fandom is Dr Who, and I wasn't very active in the Pokemon fandom anyway. I'm not missing anything.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I really want to watch Blakes' 7. But alas, I'm stuck in Veidt heaven-hell.
