Didn't do a fancy, graphical showcase because I'm not happy with my art. Had several blockages for reason that shall not be named. I've regressed and went back into thinking all my art is rubbish.
My favourite piece is probably the innacurate fanposter for The Student of Prague.

Barely any Doctor Who fanart. That's scary. I don't want to loose touch with my good, old friend.
Total Number of Completed Stories: 53
Total Number of Written Words: 6179
Overall Thoughts: Didn't finish one of my WIPs from last year. Overall dissatisfaction with it (it may be crackfic, with its nonsensical premise, but I still want it to be fun and its pathos to be genuine).
Wrote a bunch of drabbles and microfiction (scandalous!), and I think these shorter bits of writing is what I'm good at.
Still want to write longer things. Doing it in a way with the Oberaertz WIP.
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Denouement, possibly the first fic for the confusing, messy and poor early-Powell-and-Pressburger-like imitation (before they were even a thing) that is Dark Journey (1937). The film has grown on me, and so has this little piece, as I was writing it.
I shall be honest, I don't think it's good. However, looking at my other written works, this is the best I've done.
How many works did you publish this year? ...53?
My most popular story of this year: Aw, Bananas..., probably. A short, very very silly fic set during The Romans (well, the month we don't get to see). I'm surprised by how much love Memories, my one Caligari drabble, got as well.
But let's face it, the true hero is the Erik suicide art. That thing made the rounds.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: They all got what they deserved, I think.
Most fun story to write: All the Three Sentence Ficathon and Small Fandom Drabblethon ones (that weren't Anders als die Andern, because I did make myself sad writing those lol; they did gave me plot bunnies though).
Sexiest story: Still haven't written smut. Denouement contains some "hope where I'm going's got hot men". Some of my Kaiserin fics are naughty. So is Aw, Bananas...
Most fun story: Impressions, because who doesn't love the same actor, different characters trope? And punching Nazis?
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I'm a stubborn being. It has all been set in stone.
Biggest disappointment: the Barbara searching for the TARDIS' wine cellar WIP that I wanted to finish but never did. I am disappointed in myself
Biggest surprise: Memories, the Caligari drabble.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: The Angel, which is pretty tame and pretty on brand for me (*is a certified old man fucker*), but if you've seen the film, you know...
Favorite title you used? Not great at titles, but probably "Selenography". Love moon-related words.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? There's two fic named after Depeche Mode songs titles and lyrics. Because of course!
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? Barbara/Ian forever. I did write a very short thing with the Seventh Doctor and Ace, but I'm still scared of fucking them up.
There's so much Kurt/Paul though (Anders als die Andern).
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Casablanca, and it was for a silly, silly gag.
Did you take any writing risks this year? Wrote for Connie fandoms. Pretty risky if you ask me.
What work was the quickest to write? I did write several three sentence fics in a day.
What work took you the longest to write? With Friends, in High Places, had the bloody thing since last year!
How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year? Two.
What’s your longest work of the year? With Friends, in High Places
What’s your shortest work of the year? Immaculate Explosion, the Seventh Doctor and Ace fic.
What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag? Prompt Fill :P
Your favorite character to write this year? Ian, as always.
The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year? Bloody Prinzessin Karl von Marwitz.
What’s one pairing you want to explore next year? Aasi and Morso, probably (from Aasi Morso ja Mouru, Finnish puppet show)
How many kudos in total did you get this year? 193 o_O who are these people??
Which work has the most comments? Memories is tied with Dictionary of Queer Musicians of the Twentieth Century
Did you do any collaborative works this year? No.
Did you write any gifts this year? Yes, My Turn was for Astrogirl.
What do you listen to while writing? Some girl talking about weird and kinda scary tokusatsu girls.
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? All the "bangers" are in Denouement.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Finish the crackfic, please brain, I beg you...
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: Keeping it small. Just look at Immaculate Explosion.
Your main fandom of the year? Apparently Connie things. Send help.
Your favorite film watched this year? A tie between A Woman's Face (1941), Contraband (1940) and The Spy in Black (1939)
Your favorite book read this year? Grosses Kino, O Cinema Mudo Alemão em Portugal, by Gerald Bär. Non-fiction, it's about how silent German film was received in Portugal, using contemporary magazines.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year? I'm still in my Depeche Mode era, but with more Pet Shop Boys. Their Please has grown on me considerably (I never listened to it in full until last year). Also, DM's Some Great Reward is awesome!
Your favorite TV show of the year? Oh dear...
Your best new fandom discovery of the year? No.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? Same old, same old...
Your fandom boyfriend of the year? Ian, but I'm no home wrecker. So either Captain Hardt or Captain Andersen.
Your fandom girlfriend of the year? Barbara, but I'm no homewrecker. Mrs. Sorensen, then? I want to be her sidekick.
Your biggest squee moment of the year? Landstrasse und Grossstadt got released to the wild yeeeaah! And *gasp* a restoration actually got released? You can now watch Ingmarsarvet in HD?
The most missed of your old fandoms? It's all my fault, I miss Doctor Who (has never been away from it).
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Still dipping my toes in Jane Austen's oeuvre. Blake's 7 too, haven't watched it yet.
How many books did you read this year? A lot. Most of them for my dissertation.
Did you reread anything? What? A Future in Five Minutes (Jackie Hill's bio), Emma (Jane Austen) and Around the World in 80 Days.
Did you discover any new authors that you love this year? Mate, it's all non-fiction.
Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to? I started Gay Berlin but never finished it. Still haven't touched The High History of the Grail or any of the Anno Draculas.
Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones? I threw all my reading goals out of the window.
What genre did you read the most of? Non-fiction, mostly about Van Gogh and film.
Did you get into any new genres? No.
What was your favorite new release of the year? It's all old news here!
And the oldest published book you read this year? Emma.
Any books that disappointed you? Thrills Untapped. I wanted something it just could not provide, see here
Any book unexpectedly good? The schlocky wallpaper historical romances weren't that bad.
Favourite book read in your own language? Around the World in 80 Days (hey, my copy is in PT-PT)
Most books read by a single author: Jane Austen, 2
Favourite character encountered this year: Emma is fascinating
The beginning of a book series: ?
The end of a book series: ?
What books do you want to finish before the year is over? Impossible!
A favourite of this year: Emma. What can I say, she's iconic.
What TV shows did you watch a season of this year? Nothing. I sucked at television. I haven't even touched the new Doctor!
What TV shows did you DNF this year? None.
How many movies did you watch this year? Any trends in genre/viewing format/etc? 38 logged, probably more. Most of them have the same guy.
What are your top movies you watched this year? A Woman's Face, Contraband and The Spy in Black
What's a movie you enjoyed more than you expected? Die Brüder Schellenberg (1926), Persuasion (1995), Nazi Agent (1942), L'Atalante (1934)
Which movies most disappointed you this year? Der Kongress Tanzt (1931), was expecting something along the lines of Ich und die Kaiserin (1933), which yeah, it's a German musical comedy, but it's really slow, the songs drag and Lillian Harvey annoyed me.
Movies that you had the most fun talking about, whether they were good or bad: Love me me the Powell-Pressburger Hobson-Veidt duology discussion, even if I don't have anything intelligent to say.
Did you rewatch any old faves? If so, which one was you favourite? We would be here forever.
What's the oldest movie you watched? Opium (1919), but if we're counting shorts, then it's some of Muybridge's animated photographs.
What's the newest movie you watched? Terrifier 3 or Wicked. Can't remember which came out last (both are okay).
Did you watch any movies outside of your usual preferred genre(s)? Yes. Gah, I can't remember the name, but it's like a romance film that features domestic violence? It's based on a book. I hated it.
Any movies you're excited to watch in the next year? Der Gang in die Nacht (1921), Landstrasse und Grossstadt (1921), Ingmarsarvet (1925), Der Mann der den Mord Beging (1931), Die Andere Seite (1931) and Above Suspicion (1943). All the Connies I thought I would enjoy very much at the end of the Veidtwatch. And Above Suspicion. Which seems like a lot of fun, but it was a posthumous release. I'm afraid I'll cry.

- A Woman's Face (1941)
- Contraband (1940)
- The Spy in Black (1939)
- Os Demónios do Meu Avô (1922)
- Le Joueur d'Échecs (1938)

- Persuasion (1995)
- Nazi Agent (1942)

Aaaand I keep meaning to watch B7 as well...

Date: 31 Dec 2024 17:00 (UTC)I really liked your Dark Journey fic, and admire you for writing so much (and for having only two WIPs, please tell me your secret!) Yay for shorter fiction! I'm looking forward to the
Also, I approve of your taste in music--yay DM and PSB!
Above Suspicion is so much fun and the plot is quite clever, and Joan Crawford is amazing (as always)... and you're right, it was Veidt's last movie, and now I'm sad!

Date: 1 Jan 2025 16:43 (UTC)I want to do
My friend is sick of listening to Music for the Masses when I'm driving lol
He seemed to be having a good time, from the few BTS pics and film gifs I had the chance to see. Also his buddy Basil Rathbone was in it, they must have had a time together :D

Date: 1 Jan 2025 18:22 (UTC)Oh, Music For The Masses is such a good road trip album! <3
I look forward to your thoughts about Above Suspicion!

Date: 2 Jan 2025 11:40 (UTC)And yep, it is!
There's only four films left in the Veidtwatch, so hopefully soon-ish?

Date: 1 Jan 2025 18:04 (UTC)Aww. Well, that poster certainly is not! It's marvellous. But it's rotten when you're in a place like that. I hope 2025 proves better for you on that front.
And B7 is great, or at least, I think so! It depends what you're after, although to be fair B7 has it all, in an unholy mess that somehow works.
And good luck with pursuing the Austen. I am very fond of the 1995 Persuasion, like a lot of others, so it'll be interesting to see whether you take to it or not.
Doctor Who is a the best forever fandom, and it will always be there waiting, after all.

Date: 2 Jan 2025 11:37 (UTC)Other than craving more Brit sci-fi, I want to be taken on ride, so I guess B7 will be great!
I'm looking for a copy of Northanger Abbey to read next ^_^
And of course. DW forever <3
