Title: As the Curtain Falls
Rating: General
Fandom: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
Pairing(s) / Character(s): Oswald
Warnings: existential dread?
Spoilers: n/a
Summary: The world of drawings around him squashed and stretched.
Note: Not just for the Drabblethon at
small_fandoms, but also a fill for my Public Domain Day card. Also on AO3
The cartoon ended, and Oswald looked out of his celluloid home. There was no one outside. The audience wasn’t clapping, they were gone; the animator wasn’t working, he wasn’t at his desk, or anywhere else in the studio.
The world of drawings around him squashed and stretched, his very being faded in and out of existence. He saw another rabbit named Oswald, who wasn’t, isn’t and wouldn’t be him. Oswald blinked and he was gone.
He was being forgotten, he knew it, and it hurt so much.
He wanted the animator to come back soon, but his hope was dwindling.
