Which is something I never knew I needed.
I still need it. This wasn't that great.
Looks like if Metropolis and George Méliès had an American baby.
The music is here just to be here. They were still figuring out this new sound thing, let alone this new musical thing. The bug song was pretty funny.
15 minutes in and we get a song about how much the main character wants a tradwife. I feel there's some race thing going on with the people of Mars?? "That's how it was back then", yeah, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Science fiction tells us more about the time it was made in than it does about the future or something like that.
The worst part of Wings (1927) is the Dutch guy. He's here. He talks. He did say two funny things. It's a pre-code, they can do some raunchy humour (see: bug song).
Plot is a nothing burger, really. The future society is dystopian, and the characters are aware that it is an oppressive environment, but instead of fighting back, they play within the established (and very American) system.
Accidental bisexuality/polyamory though. My favourite character was the girlfriend of the main character's buddy who was just having a great time the whole movie. Good for her.
