OMG

To distract myself from the horrors of real life.

Searching for Conrad Veidt fanvids gives you the usual: your Million Dollar Mans and your I'm in Love with a German Film Stars. They're vids made of awesome! I love them! But I wanted to see if there were more fanvids. Maybe not Connie-related ones per se, but anything related to his films.

There are several vids for The Man Who Laughs (half of them comedic, half of them serious). There's one for Caligari that's almost as old as YouTube itself. They're crusty, as in, they're old. That good crust.

Casablanca vids are very much a thing. There's a very recent one that came out during FestiVids. Still need to see it.

And then there's

Now, I'm not that big of a fan of The Thief of Bagdad. I don't hate it, but for me it's just meh. It's even meh-er now than it was when I first saw it, but that wasn't really the film's fault. It's a whole thing, we would be here forever. (Beautiful blue eyes are, however, still beautiful. If I ever say otherwise, consider me replaced by my evil mirror!self.)

But, dude, your mind! First, monofandom vids for films of yesteryear are rare as hell. You got me there. Then, you don't go for a canon pair, or the popular fanon pair. You go for a non-obvious non-canon pair. Spack off, Jaffar/Princess and Abu/Ahmad!

And it's so. Well. Edited! The shot choices are very clever. The vidder made actual assets made for this. Actual footage was edited to make sense within the AU. There's genuine love and care here. And I applaud it. Well done, mate!

(Not Connie related, but for a change, have this Buster Keaton fanvid, because it's a fun time. The lyrics interpretations are so fun.)

Everyday I cry for the deactivation of hanswalterconradveidt on Tumblr (they're also on the Internet Archive?). So much good stuff, so much research, lost. These are the true angels that carry this godforsaken fandom, the kind souls who are enthusiastic and want to share the enthusiasm, alongside the artists.

Anyway, I shared a Karloff fanart, now I share this beautiful The Man Who Laughs piece. The author has a tumblr, but couldn't find the art there, only on AO3.

And The Spy in Black piece, so soft, like bütter. (That's my bestie Veidt fan acquaintance!)

PS: Connie as Carlos petting a borzoi in Carlos und Elisabeth.

You're welcome.

This lovely fan portrait of Boris Karloff (Tumblr link), which I forgot to share. I think [personal profile] liadt will appreciate :D

(The artist also has some The Mummy fanart.)

DeepL is what it is, but this short piece on Connie from a women's mag is delightful. Kudos for that Trude Fleischmann picture, it is my favourite of hers.

Speaking of Connie, a Der Reigen post that's just pure madness (bonus Asta and Lili)

So what?

I have a bunch of pics now. Some of them were only available in either a smaller size or cropped. Some are completely new! Well, to me at least. The usual suspect may have seen them. So, for now, I'll leave you with

He's beauty
He's grace
He scronch him face

from here, Austrian archives are neat. And yes, that's where one of my icons comes from lol

Snowflake Challenge Roundup: Twaalf, Dertien, Veertien

Challenge #12
Tell Us about a Personal Win.

Well, beside the 10k total words written (woo!), I managed to do all the uni work of this month with minimal fuss (even if the letter G of my keyboard stopped working, rip to that). I'm easily stressed when it comes to deadlines and things, and I often get carried away with research, so yay!

Challenge #13

Make a rec list of fanworks! Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

. . . Who Burned like Starfire by Nemo_the_Everbeing Featuring the seventh Doctor and Ace. It's lovely, and honestly, everything by Nemo is worth reading at least once.

Classic Who as Charlie's Angels by T.D. Possum
A Third Doctor era fanvid that's incredibly edited and makes me smile every time I watch it :D Liz, Jo and Sarah Jane are awesome!

Always by TigerKat
I love getting into Ian's brains! Barbara/Ian, second person POV (not for everyone, I know, but I like it here). Set during The Rescue.

Friday Night Jealousy by paranoidangel
paranoidangel's first Doctor era fics are great, so here's one :3

Field Trip by thisbluespirit
The sixth Doctor and Peri AND Barbara and Ian? Yes, please! This is so much fun!

Challenge #14

Try something new. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Welp. Does loosely following an icon-making tutorial count? 'Cause I did that (tutorial and textures by wolfbane-icons btw), and here's the result.

An Assortment

Got two delightful gifts from two exchanges (okay I had to drop the last one, since I was neck deep into reading material for uni).

Heimeldat's Alien Armadillos in Wales is so much fun! Loved the character interactions (Ray!) and the aliens were neat.

human_nature's Happy Christmas Ace is so sweet. Made my heart very happy.

Wrote a silly (and extremely short) The Adventures of Sir Lancelot fic for a challenge at Froday Flash Fiction Challenge. Here's the link (and if you want to read it on AO3, here it is).

In Search of the (W)Right Fic (and a bit of a story)

Of note, I'm a youngster (hypothetically close to a quarter of a century, let's see how the universe treats me).

I used to spend some of my time scouring defunct newsgroups and LiveJournal blogs / communities. On my Wii. Interesting times, those were. Cannot complain, I discovered Teaspoon! And a few of my favourite writers too!

On one of the communities I poked around in (dedicated to two certain teachers ;) ), there was a fanfiction masterlist. Here it is, if you're interested.

There was a name on there I recognised (someone I follow on Twitter, a big Barbara fan; I didn't go on Twitter much, and now I certainly won't touch it!). Turns out, he wrote a long, long story about Barbara post-The Chase. As a Barbara fan (could you tell), I had to read it. I read everything on that list, but not that one.

But as is the nature of the internet, she giveth and then taketh away, and the website was gone. The Wayback Machine could only archive four chapters or so. I mentioned it to the author and asked if, maybe, he was interested in reposting it somewhere. Nothing came of it, he has his own original projects.

This was a few years ago. I won't lie, I kinda lost hope.

And then, poking around the Wayback Machine, and [livejournal.com profile] the_chestertons community, and some of the blogs of the regular posters there... I found another link to the same fic. All chapters archived.

I posted a rec for it on [community profile] tardis_library. It's good.

It shall forever live in EPUB form on both my phone and my computer (even if I cannot read a full book on a computer, but you know, backup your stuff and all that).

Now, getting off-topic but keeping on topic at the same time: why didn't I save that one fic posted on tumblr dot com and tumblr dot com only that had Ian playing with some alien kids who were intrigued by the concept of hair. And Barbara thought it was adorable! Didn't I learn anything from the Angels mishap? Now the blog deactivated, the posts are lost...

Again, the internet giveth and taketh away.

Fic Rec Time: Home Again, Unfortunately by JR Loflin

Short but sweet. It's very much in character and funny to boot. It puts a smile in my face and lives in my head rent free. I can't say much without spoiling it
